The Gloss Stains

I find that me and lip colour tend to have a love/hate relationship. I either can't get enough or I just can't be arsed. Topping up my lip colour throughout the day is something that I very often can't be bothered to do or even just forget about! The last couple of years on the beauty scene has been rocked with the emergence of many brands' answer to glossy, colour-fuelled lip products that promise to last hours upon hours on end, they are the gloss stains.
Anyone who knows me and my relationship with lip products, knows that me and lasting gloss stains are a match made in heaven. In general, they are highly moisturising, saturated with colour (with a fabulous colour range) and long lasting. While I can often be an advocate of the 'matte lip', glosses have always been a great addition to many make up looks - even 'no make up' looks.

So here are three that I love. From top to bottom, Maybelline Colour Elixer (yet to launch in the UK - come on Maybelline!!). This is the creamiest of the bunch. Then we have the L'Oreal GlamShine Stain Splash which is the 'drugstore dupe' of the very last one, the YSL Glossy Stain, the original gloss stain.

Though I have used my YSL Glossy Stains the most out of my selection, I can't say that I have a firm favourite out of them all - they are all so good! I'm dying the Maybelline Colour Elixers to come to the UK, the colour range of them seems amazing with (I think) 20 shades!

So if you're a girl who loves a low maintenance lip-look like me, these may be just the thing you need! As the Maybelline Elixers are not in the UK yet, if you're not on too tight a budget, you may be better of trying a YSL Glossy Stain as your first venture into gloss stains, their colour range is bigger than that of the L'Oreal equivalent. But either way, you'll be in for a treat!

Do you have any of these? If so, let me know in the comments below what your favourite shades are. Perhaps you like gloss stains for intense colour, or are they what you use for a lasting nude lip look?

  1. I have the L'Oréal one, but here in Finland they are called Shine Caresse.. The shade names are the same as on the page you linked, I have Romy :). I hardly ever use bright colours, so I go for the neutral ones.
